Finding Clarity and Purpose

When I opened Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy, I smiled right away. The very first quote was one that has already shaped my life:

"There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants and a burning desire to achieve it." – Napoleon Hill

If you know me, you know Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich has been part of my journey. I’ve participated in two 30-day studies of his book over the past two years, and it has pushed me to look inside myself, get honest about my dreams, and practice changing my mindset. Not easy work—but life-changing. So, when Brian Tracy quoted Hill in the very first chapter, I knew I was exactly where I needed to be.

Clarity and Confidence

Chapter 1 focuses on clarity—being crystal clear about what you want and how you’re going to get there. One line that struck me deeply was:

"Here is a great rule for success: Think on paper."

Yes! That’s me to a T. Writing things down helps me process both mentally and emotionally. It’s how I plan, execute, and find the confidence to keep moving forward.

Brian shares seven steps for setting and achieving goals. They’re powerful, but I wanted to share my own version that I’ve been practicing for years.

My Seven Steps for Tackling Any Task

I’ve leaned on this process in my work, in planning, and even in my personal business. Here’s my spin on the steps:

  1. Name It Clearly – Identify the task or project that needs to be done.
  2. Mark the Deadline – Big projects (or even small tasks) get a timeline.
  3. Write It Down – A task on paper becomes real.
  4. Break It Down – Tiny steps, no detail left behind.
  5. Reverse Engineer the Plan – Organize the steps so they flow toward the deadline.
  6. Delegate with Purpose – Free yourself from the “everything” list and focus on the most important pieces.
  7. Move It Daily – Do one thing every day that moves you closer to completion.

This system has carried me through more than five years of annual work projects that used to feel overwhelming. Each time, I tweak and refine it, and each year it gets better.

Why This Matters for Me Now

As someone who’s been in the same career for nearly 30 years (and blessed to have long-term relationships with amazing clients), I want to continue showing up fully and not let anyone down. At the same time, I remind myself: grace matters too. Intention, clarity, and a willingness to grow will always lead me where I need to be.

That’s why Eat That Frog resonates so much. It’s not about doing more—it’s about doing what matters most, first.

And that’s exactly what I’m building into my life, my planning, and my business at Plan With June.
